Here we describe in brief the children in our group.
We’re not showing the children’s photos for their ongoing privacy. But they each deserve a mention because we all care about them. None of them are as healthy and strong as they could be, given better food and sanitary facilities. Schooling has not begun for the older ones because they are also targeted by homophobic behaviour from other children.
Pius.
Son of Nanisi. Pius is 6 months old, born in April 2023. He is always smiling, despite various childhood illnesses and lack of nutrition. Read about Nanisi here: Nanisi
Iris and Ivy.
Twin girls, daughters of Emily. Both 9 months old and still focused on their mum. They have frequent coughs and flu, red eyes, vomiting breast milk, a running stomach and a weak body. Ivy doesn’t sleep well.
Bob
Son of Emily. Now 3 years old. Bob is polite, likes playing alone, and loves his sisters Iris and Ivy. He suffers the effects of malaria and typhoid every two months. He also has a frequent cough, flu symptoms, a running stomach, and a generally weak body.
Raymond.
Son of Anna. Raymond is 4 years old. He is shy with others and equally stubborn towards his mum. He prefers to play out in the dust with others his age, rather than be inside.

Efrema
Son of Sara. Efrema is 5 years old. He is stubborn to everyone, talkative, likes fighting, and likes crying for people’s bicycles. He enjoys playing in the dust, always laughing at the same time crying, likes sitting in the sun rays, has a good appetite and likes football.

Ciara
Daughter of Sara. She is 6 years old.
Ciara is polite and talkative and likes reading and writing. She plays easily alone and is forever in the shower (which for all of us, means a bucket of cold water and a mug to pour it over us.)
She has a frequent cough, flu symptoms, tummy problems, and the effects of malaria and typhoid almost every month.
